The Gananoque Fire Department is a composite department. Our operation has a full time chief and 3 full time professional firefighters which man the station on a 3 shift, 8 hour rotation during the week. On weekends, beginning on Friday at 23:30 hrs; part time firefighters will take up the duties at our station on a 2 shift, 24 hour rotation. These firefighters rotate on a 4 week cycle. The remaining firefighters are volunteers, some of which cover occasional fill in work. This structure guarantees a quick response to any emergency. We operate with a two platoon system for minor emergency calls and a General Alarm for major calls. When the alarm is paged out, the on-duty firefighter responds to the location of the call with the apparatus, while the remaining firefighters respond directly to that scene. Gananoque is a part of the Leed's Grenville Mutual Aid System which is headquartered out of Brockville, Ontario.
