At Villa Charities, our history is who we are. Founded in 1971, Villa Charities was established to provide elderly Italian-Canadians with affordable, high quality, and culturally conscious long-term care. In 1976, that vision materialized with the construction of Villa Colombo Toronto, a long-term care facility that incorporates various elements of Italian culture to create an environment of peace, community, and comfort. Since then Villa Charities has blossomed, adding a diversified community centre and four more senior living facilities. Today, after nearly five decades, Villa Charities has become one of the most versatile, holistic, and inclusive charities in the country, providing so much to so many.

Tzu Chi commissioners are united by wisdom and support each other with love, and we walk on the Bodhisattva path hand in hand. The commissioners constantly keep in mind to take the Buddha's compassion, thus, our thousand eyes can see the sufferings; we dedicate ourselves to the Master’s commitment as to our own, therefore, the thousand hands can reach out and help. We hear the cries of all sufferings and provide the aids with peace and joy, and it is no difference from Guan Yin Bodhisattva. We take part in four missions with pure hearts and clear minds. Buddha sees all beings with kindness and teaches everyone the Dharma; thus, everyone is inspired to bring out the best. What a compassion and wisdom it is! All commissioners shall carry out the missions of Tzu Chi with right belief and right mindfulness. We will serve others, come to realize the essence of birth, aging, illness, and death, and understand the meaning of formation, continuation, destruction, and extinction. Working together to carry out the missions and pass on the tradition, we are going to leave our footprints today and our coming generations will be proud of what we are doing.

Toronto Cat Rescue is a registered, no-kill charity run by volunteers. Toronto Cat Rescue’s main rescue partner is Toronto Animal Services (TAS). TCR focuses our efforts on rescuing from TAS to reduce the number of feline companion animals euthanized in the City of Toronto shelters. This initiative supports the city’s movement toward eliminating the euthanasia of any healthy or treatable cat housed in Toronto shelters. TCR rescues cats that are ill, in need of extra care or socialization, orphaned, geriatric, and/or do not thrive in the shelter environment. By rescuing these cats, treating them for any ailments they have, and preparing them for adoption, we are saving them from potential euthanasia and giving them a chance at having a forever home.

In May of 1959, Fr. John Tataryn was asked to begin a new parish to serve Etobicoke residents, and to fulfill the needs of a changing community. Although many parishes flourished throughout the Toronto area, St. Demetrius the Great Martyr Parish was established to minister to a community marked by its diversity. The mandate was to welcome all and especially to meet the spiritual needs of those who through inter-marriage or linguistic concerns felt unwelcome elsewhere.
