Our Web site. D (Dave) Smith Renovations W. D (Dave) Smith Renovations started out as W. D Smith Aluminum Products way back in 1954. It was started by my Grandfather, William David (thus the W. D) Smith as a part time buisiness while he worked for The Canadian National Railway (CNR). It was at the genesis of home renovations and at a time when many people were just starting to be concerned about energy savings and of course convenience. By convenience I mean not having to remove bulky wooden storm windows every spring and then replace them again the next fall only to have suffered through another summer with their homes being populated by flys etc.
This brought on the advent of aluminum storm windows and storm doors. It was a booming business and most definitely necessary. At this point my Grandfather's job became fulltime with a journey into manufacturing as well. Along the way, my Father, W. Harold Smith joined the business and the theme was set. A family buisiness had begun. With the passing of my Grandfather in 1972, my Father and my Grandmother, Mabel Smith, took the reigns and carried on in the retail sector as suppliers and installers of quality windows and doors and other related products.
1997 saw another change as my Grandmother passed away and my Father took control of the business until his retirement in 2008 after 54 years in the business. I started working for my Dad in April of 1977 and 36 years later, here I am working with my son Ian, the 4th generation of Smith's in this business. We changed the name (somewhat) to better reflect the changing nature of the business and to put less emphasis on the "aluminum". Nothing has changed however with regard to integrity and customer satisfation which have held us in good stead for 59 years. Quality products and service are the foundation of our business. From windows and doors to carpentry and repairs, we offer a broad range of options for every homeowner. We look forward to being of service to you.
