Description
The parish itself was founded in 1884 and is Calgary's oldest Anglican parish. The Cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Calgary and is so called because it contains the bishop's official seat, or throne which in Latin is called a 'cathedra'. This throne is the symbol of the bishop's authority as chief pastor and teacher of the diocese. It is also the home to a vibrant, diverse, and growing congregation through whose dedication this Cathedral Church serves as a living reminder of spiritual values in the midst of a busy downtown core. The parish takes to heart our mandate to be 'A Place for the Soul in the Heart of the City' through worship, outreach and education.
