Suburban Newspaper The, Saint-Laurent, QC

The Suburban was founded on March 1, 1963 in Sophie Wollock's basement on Davies Avenue in Côte St. Wollock vowed that the paper would be uncompromising in reporting the news and getting the truth out to the public. In subsequent years, The Suburban would spread its coverage and launch additional editions in the surrounding communities, including Hampstead, NDG, Côte des Neiges and Snowdon, Chomedey, Westmount, Town of Mount Royal, St. Laurent and the West Island - Dollard, Beaconsfield, Kirkland and Point claire. The Suburban spread even further in the 2000s to include an East End edition - in St Leonard and Riveire des Prairies as well as going west to Vaudreuil and South to Lasalle and Verdun. The Wollock family owned the paper until 1987, when it was bought by the Sochaczevski family, who own it to this day. The Suburban has won numerous Quebec, Canada-wide and international awards for its top-notch editorials, news coverage, sports reporting, photography, opinions, community activism, feature stories and editorial cartooning. The Suburban is a repeat winner of the QCNA's best overall newspaper in Quebec and the first Canadian winner of the SNA's Best community service award. The Suburban has also gone though several innovations, including putting the whole paper as-is online. Our web-site has been further expanded to include; The Suburban Magazine, an inter-active experience providing top-notch entertainment coverage for all that takes place in Montreal; The Suburban Mall - an easy to use directory to find any category of product or services containing many valuable coupon opportunities, and in Dec 2011 a "Deal of the Week" site with outstanding values. Today, The Suburban has a print circulation of 145, 000 copies and is the largest English-language weekly in Quebec.
