I returned to Vancouver in 1980 from my hometown of Victoria. Although as a son of a sailor, I spent three years living on the old Jericho military base, north of 4th Avenue, which is now Jericho Beach Park. That was big fun as a Queen Mary school kid riding my CCM Mustang up and down the beaches, 4th Ave. and Broadway. Childhood memories of Cub Scouts at Point Grey United, popcorn vendors on N.W. Marine, a Vancouver Sun paper route, Peewee Football, Peter's Ice Cream, Saturday matinees at the Hollywood Theatre, slotcar racing at Grand Prix Hobbies, blacklight posters at the Trick & Joke Shop, Hippies & Patchouli.
My first career in Vancouver was with the Division of Vital Statistics at Robson Square, where as a Marriage Commissioner I performed over 500 civil marriage ceremonies. In 1986, I started a new career. First at CFOX FM99 during a time when it was a North American leader in rock radio. You might remember me as “Stevie Ray Dunbar” and the host of the original “Electric Lunch”. In 2001 I joined ROCK101 which had become the country’s leading classic rock station. Eight years later I took the opportunity to work for my first radio hero, Roy Hennessy, and host the morning show at SHORE104. Then after 24 years of rock radio, talking to listeners, interviewing rock stars & celebrities, creating marketing & promotional ideas, seeing more bands than I can remember but never forgetting the answer to a trivia question, I chose my third career.
