In 1997 Stuart Gautier and Keith Rettinger recognized that the private mortgage market and regulatory environment they had been working within for over two decades was changing. They concluded that a Mortgage Investment Company (MIC) would best address these changes so they founded Kensington Realfund Corporation in response. Since 1997 Kensington has grown from a startup company to, as of December 31, 2012, a fund with over $17, 840, 000 in shareholder equity and 118 shareholders. Kensington presently holds 37 Mortgages with an average loan to value of 60.66%, as at their date of funding, and returned a 4.97% yield to investors in 2012. Kensington continues to be managed by Stuart through his independant mortgage brokerage firm and operates from his office in Qualicum Beach.
