Kelmar Country Meats & Deli is a family owned company that brings fifty years of farming to its shop & the customers they serve. In the mid 50’s Kelly’s father & mother settled on an old homestead five miles north of Douglas, Manitoba. It was there that Kelly grew up to farm with his family. The farm was a very self sufficient farm growing grain and raising livestock to include; milk cows, beef cows, hogs & chickens.
In 1983 Kelly & MaryAnn were married and continued the farming business to eventually buy the family homestead and raise a family of their own. Growing up on the farm is one of the greatest experiences a person will ever have. The freedom of living in the country & seeing how their food is grown in a natural environment has given them the grassroots education necessary to chose high quality food.
In 1994, KELLY & MARYANN created “KELMAR”, a company that grew from a farming & agri-services business in Western Manitoba, to a Manitoba Ag Sales, Services & Marketing business. In the spring of 2015 Kelly & MaryAnn sold off the farm and Ag Business to focus 100% on their new businesses in Winnipeg. Today they own three new shops at 925 Headmaster Row. The Butcher, The Baker and The Bistro.
The vision for Kelmar Country Meats & Deli began several years ago through the BSE crisis in Canada. Kelly’s vision for the beef industry in Manitoba was to create a fully traceable gate to plate company that could bring the highest quality of beef & other livestock products to its customers. After years of hands on experience in the processing business & seeing the inside of many different facilities, it became very evident not every food facility operates under strict health protocols. It is because of this experience that our company will only buy products from facilities that operate at the highest level of food safety protocols.
