Assessments conducted at the elementary and secondary school level are typically undertaken to determine whether an underlying neurodevelopmental disorder (Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder), behavioural issue, and/or mental health difficulty is affecting the student’s academic, social, and/or family functioning. Assessments are also administered to determine a student’s eligibility for an educational identification of Gifted within the school environment.
Assessments conducted at the post-secondary level are typically undertaken to ascertain a student’s eligibility for disability-related services and to determine the most appropriate accommodations and supports, should they be warranted. Discussion of the student’s strengths and weaknesses is also undertaken to ensure the use of the most appropriate learning strategies.
Assessments of adult non-students are typically undertaken to determine barriers to success in employment, relationships, parenting, and/or the individual’s general ability to succeed at their goals.
