Dean & Mildred Lougheed first moved to Duntroon in 1958 to the property that was the local Blacksmith’s Shop. In 1962, Dean Lougheed started cleaning carpets & furniture in the old Blacksmith’s Shop and within a year Dean had floated in a larger school portable. This would be the home for Deans Rug - Upholstery Cleaning, Phone #94J1. In 1967, Dean had another building floated in to increase the size, to accommodate the addition to selling carpet and vinyl, changing the name to Deans Rugland and with a new phone number 705-445-2166 (which is still used today). In 1973, a terrible accident destroyed the building, and shortly after a new structure was rebuilt. Continuing to expand the family business with new flooring sales and additional cleaning equipment, Dean Lougheed had found his dream. In 1979, his son Michael would join the family business and another addition would be added to create over 6000 sq ft of show room, rug cleaning room, and warehouse for all rolls of carpet and vinyl to sell. In 1995, Michael purchased remaining control of the business and in 1996 joined one of North America’s largest flooring buying groups, and once again the name was changed to Deans Rugland Carpet One. In 1998, Dean Lougheed lost his battle with diabetes, and the ability to watch the company that he started grow to what it is today. Michael’s daughter Sarah joined the business in 2003 and son Justin Lougheed joined in 2008 making it a third generation family business. In 2008 to better serve their cliental Deans Carpet One opened their 2nd location at 334 Sykes St. South in Meaford, ON.
