T he “Roaring Game” (probably named for the thunder of the stones rolling over ice) may be one of the world’s oldest team sports. Written evidence suggests it was being played as early as the 1500s in Scotland. And, according to the World Curling Federation: “... the first recognized Curling Clubs were formed in Scotland, and during the 19th Century the game was “exported” wherever Scots settled around the world in cold climates, most notably at that time in Canada, USA, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway and New Zealand.” The number of World and Olympic championships won by Canadians is an indication of how enthusiastically the game has been embraced here.
