Our mission at Calder School is to work as a team of continuous learners to promote high student achievement, a shared responsibility for learning and a safe and positive environment. Recognizing that children have responsibilities at home and interests outside of school, students are generally given class time to work on assignments with teachers providing guided practice. Homework is provided at the discretion of the teacher. Over and beyond homework, students are required to study every day. It is expected that students in kindergarten through grade 3 spend 10-20 minutes a night studying and students in grades 4 through 6 spend 20-30 minutes a night. Studying may include home reading, journal writing, spelling word practice and review of past assignments, review of math basic facts and skills, and/or occasional projects that extend concepts being taught at school.
