Dr. John Hooper served as Professor and Director of the School of Music at Concordia University College of Alberta. In addition to conducting several choral and handbell ensembles, he taught conducting, choral technique, theory and aural skills, among others. Currently he is an examiner for the London College of Music through the University of West London. His work has taken him to India, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia. He has served as an evaluator and adjudicator for the Singapore Youth Festival, the City of Hobart (Australia) Eisteddfod, the Hong Kong Handbell Olympics, the Handbells Asia Festival in Malaysia, and several local festivals throughout Alberta. He was a guest clinician at Choralfest South in Calgary, sponsored by the Alberta Choral Federation, at the Canadian Cantando Festival in Edmonton, as for several local and international ensembles.

Since 1993 Edmonton Vocal Minority has been Edmonton's Queer musical voice where singers of all skill levels and orientations join in making music. There are many ways to be involved with the choir. As a singer you will find the music rewarding and the musical direction inspirational. As a volunteer you will be helping to put EVM on stage before the public. As an advertiser you will be reaching several hundred people each year. As a donor you will be investing in the cultural diversity of our community. There is a place for everyone in EVM!
