Although the Friends is a fixture in the University of Alberta Hospitals community and both a valuable and unique contributor to Alberta’s healthcare system, they are a separate entity from Alberta Health Services and the UAH Foundation. From humble beginnings as a ladies auxiliary raising under $1, 000 in 1906, the Friends has grown into a thriving organization bringing in over $1.5 million per year. One thing that hasn’t changed during our various incarnations as Ladies Hospital Aid Society, University Hospitals Auxiliary to the Friends of University Hospitals, is our emphasis on extending care and comfort to patients and their families.
