WestCoast CPT – cone penetration tests for Vancouver and the Lower Mainland WestCoast CPT is a Delta-based core penetration test company that does geotechnical cone penetration tests for engineers and general contractors. We are located near Vancouver, and do tests across the Lower Mainland. The cone penetration test (CPT) is a sophisticated tool that investigates the engineering characteristics of soft soils. Core penetration tests are extremely useful in the evaluation of the potential for the soil to liquefy during a major earthquake, and are often used by the geotechnical engineer before a project proceeds as they complete the geotechnical elements of the design. If the ground is soft and weak, geotechnical engineers sometimes recommend treatment methods that will improve the strength of the soil and also prevent the soil from liquefying during an earthquake. The CPT is used in this case by contractors and engineers to test the soil after the treatment to verify that the objectives of the treatment have been met.
