At the Canadian Intensive Care Foundation (CICF), we raise funds for life-saving intensive care research and education. Saving lives in a crisis situation is what we are all about. At any time - regardless of age, income or geography - people find themselves in need of intensive care. Here, the most desperate cases are found. Here, research and education is most valuable. Here, knowledge can have the biggest impact on who lives and who does not. Four out of five ICU patients survive and recover in another area of the hospital. One out of five does not - and so the reference to Five Chairs in CICF communications. We're committed to increasing medical professionals' understanding of the needs of critical care patients, and the treatments available for these patients. By providing some of the nation's leading intensive care researchers with grants, we ensure that tomorrow's most critically ill patients will enjoy better care and a greater chance of survival.

Since 1998, the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) has worked to reduce homelessness in our city. A home is a precious thing many of us take for granted. The late Mr. Art Smith, a leading Calgary entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist, founded the CHF in order to create a unified front to fight homelessness. As of 2008, the Foundation received a new mandate: to end homelessness in Calgary in 10 years. The Foundation is moving forward on implementing Calgary’s 10 Year Plan in partnership with the many homeless serving agencies, the private sector, our government partners, the faith community, other foundations and all Calgarians to end homelessness in Calgary.

Alberta Barley is a farmer-directed, not-for-profit organization representing Alberta’s barley farmers. Alberta Barley collects a mandatory, but refundable, check-off and reinvests it to grow the barley industry—and its profitability. The organization works collaboratively within all levels of agriculture to achieve tangible results that benefit Alberta’s barley growers. As an organization, Alberta Barley firmly believes in the importance of grassroots representation. Without the support of individual farmer members, the organization would not be able to function. Every farmer who pays barley check-off dollars has a say in the decision-making process, providing a meaningful contribution to growing the entire barley industry. It is through this inclusive, ground-up approach that the organization strives to promote Alberta barley.

Our Goals Provide an opportunity for the families of people with Down syndrome to come together on a regular basis to share experiences and exchange information. Advocate on behalf of people with Down syndrome for their rights as individuals. Promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome into our society, thereby allowing them to attain their maximum developmental potential. Gather and disseminate up-to-date information about Down syndrome to our membership, health care professionals, education professionals and the general public. Foster and maintain liaisons with other groups interested in improving the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome.
