Principal's Message Welcome! Greenbrier is an amazing place where great things happen! As Principal of Greenbrier School, I will work diligently with parents, staff and students to foster an atmosphere that promotes a life-long passion for learning. Our ‘learning community’ will be characterized by academic excellence, trust, respect, open communication, and community involvement; a great foundation on which to support school improvement and student success. As we work towards our mission, preparing students to be independent life long learners, ready for the challenges of the 21st century, this quotation, one my favourites, says it all, "School is a building with four walls and tomorrow inside." (Barbara Knight) As educators, we challenge ourselves everyday to foster a learning environment that promotes the freedom to wonder, to ask, to explore, and to imagine. We strive daily to create an atmosphere where students are accepted for their talents and individual uniqueness. We endeavor to develop engaging, relevant learning opportunities and a positive school climate that instills character traits of Respect, Responsibility, Inclusiveness, Compassion, Integrity, Perseverance, Humility and Collaboration. We share in the responsibility of creating a school that promotes high academic achievement, and a safe and inclusive school climate. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities for all of us. I feel very fortunate to be working with wonderful students, parents and staff who give the best of themselves today, to create a better world for tomorrow. Student Handbook Each year our students may purchase a Greenbrier Student Agenda. Inside the agenda are a number of pages that provide important information for our students and their families. We encourage our students to learn to use the agenda for their personal organization. We also use the agendas to communicate with parents/guardians and hope that you will take a few minutes each evening to review the agenda with…

It gives me great pleasure, as Principal of Edith Monture Elementary School, to welcome you to the official Edith Monture school website. This website has been prepared in the hope that it will become for parents, students, staff and visitors to the site, a valuable source of school news and timely information. Our entire staff is committed to establishing a school environment that allows our students to flourish and grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially. We take great pride in being awarded our Lighthouse Leadership status. It is my hope that this website is valuable to your needs. Enjoy your visit! Principal D. Ouellette Leader in Me is FranklinCovey’s whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a leader. This evidence-based approach empowers students with the leadership and life-skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Visit the Leader in Me Blog for inspiration and resources. Learn more at leaderinme.org The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is one of the key frameworks of the Leader in Me process. The 7 Habits help students learn and apply social-emotional skills. Additionally, the 7 Habits give students and staff members a common language and are essential in building a strong leadership culture. At Edith Monture we have adopted a Boomerang Lunch policy to help make a difference to our environment. We hope to reduce waste and encourage students and their families to review and think about the way they prepare and package lunch and snack foods. All waste from your child’s snacks/lunches will be returned home. This includes all packaging, uneaten food and leftovers. Most lunch trash comes from disposable packaging of single serving food items, plastic bags and foil. It’s estimated that the average school age child using a disposable lunch produces 67 pounds of lunch waste per school year! At Edith Monture that translates into nearly 3, 000 large bags of garbage a year. This is a huge cost to the environment and to t…

Support the dress code. Walter Gretzky Elementary School does not prescribe uniforms for its students or staff. Clothing should be modest and appropriately reflect modesty, comfort, and tidiness. Clothing must be suited for the weather. Student attendance is checked twice during the day. If your child will be absent or late, parents are required to phone the school. Please, phone 519-770-1288 each day of your child's absence. For your convenience, an answering machine is available and messages may be left to inform the school of your child's absence. This will assist us in providing a measure of safety in that children sent to school and who do not report to their classroom are identified quickly so parents can take action. If children are to be out of school for an extended period of time, parents are required to complete a "Temporary Out of School" form and return it to the office. Students are responsible for acquiring and completing the assignments missed during their absence. The Board of Education requires that all students who arrive at school late or leave the school early must sign in and out at the office. Parents who pick up their children during the school day for appointments must also sign their child out of the school. Parent volunteers, co-op students, maintenance workers and Board personnel are required to sign in and out. A Log Sheet is located on the counter in the office. During school trips, students will be required to ride a school bus. Riding the bus is a privilege - not a right. Co-operation on everyone's part is what makes this work for all of us. The bus driver is in charge on the bus and students must follow the driver's direction to maintain their bus privileges. Please discuss with your children the expectations for riding a bus quietly, staying in one seat, and respecting the driver. This is in the interest of all children. Students are allowed to bring cell phones to school. The use of these phones as educational tools during class t…

Agnes G. Hodge is a JK-Gr. 8 urban school with a population of approximately 445 students and 50 staff. The school was opened in 1956 in honour of Agnes G. Hodge, who started the first Home and School Association in Brantford and was one of the first women to serve on the Brant County Board of Education. The original building consisted of 6 classrooms that housed 100 students. In 2005, an addition was built to accommodate the amalgamation of students from Riverview and Ryerson Public Schools. Our school mascot is the Husky and our school colours are blue and gold. We offer a variety of clubs, sports teams and activities for students, including Glee Club, ukulele Club, First Nations, Metis and Inuit club, softball, soccer, volleyball, football, and zumba, to name a few. We have a daily snack program run by a small group of dedicated volunteers. In addition, classes participate in Roots of Empathy, the SKIP program, KELSO, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids; The Leader in Me and Social Justice Begins with Me. The school was opened in September 1956 in honour of Agnes G. In 1956, the original front six classrooms were built with only four of them in use with approximately 100 students. The first principal of the school was Mr. Harold Vail (1956 – 1965). The first staff included Mrs. Marjorie Goodland, Mrs. Gladys McBride, and Mrs. Marilyn Topp. In 2005 came the expansion and renovation of Agnes G. Hodge Public School with the joining of Ryerson Public School and Riverview Heights Public School within the Grand Erie District School Board. Agnes G. Hodge Public School has adopted a philosophy that's been proven to boost grades, attendance records, stomp out bullying, and improve the general well-being of students. I am honoured to serve as Principal at Graham Bell-Victoria Public School, where we strive to live out Grand Erie’s vision to Learn, Lead, and Inspire. We work hard to provide opportunities to develop the child as a whole. Education goes beyond strong academic instruction. Academic success is supported by personal socio-emotional growth. As such, GBV focuses on growing WHOLE champions of learning by investing time into meeting children where they are at, and navigating an appropriate path towards success and well-being. LOVE RESPECT BRAVERY TRUTH HUMILITY HONESTY WISDOM We invite parents to celebrate students who achieve Gryphon awards at our school assembly. During this assembly we also celebrate our MATH ROCKSTARS! To be a MATH ROCKSTAR a child needs to demonstrate growth in the area of numeracy, whether that be with a positive attitude, a fearless exploration in math, or high scores. We are fortunate to have a math coach to support teachers and classrooms, helping students to dig deeper into learning. Parent volunteers and additions to our active Parent Council are always appreciated. To be in school we require a police vulnerable sector check (free for parent volunteers), but we encourage all to get involved. It truly takes a village to raise a child! These positive connections between home and school are important to student achievement. Should you have any questions or concerns, I invite you to please contact the school and schedule a time to speak with myself or any team member. With respect from our Gryphon family, Katie Terpstra Principal
