Hi Parents! Welcome to a new and exciting year at Banbury Heights. Compassion, Pride and Perseverance will continue to be our character focus again this year. Attitude is Everything Code of Conduct As well as curricular considerations, the code of behaviour is intended to assist in the prevention of physical, verbal (oral or written), sexual, or psychological abuse; bullying; or discrimination on the basis of race, culture, religion, gender, language, disability, sexual orientation, or any other attribute that may not be part of the majority at hand. The code draws from the Education Act to summarize the rights and responsibilities of students, teachers and parents. A graduated system of discipline is outlined for possible school action, based upon the severity and ongoing nature of the problem. Balanced School Day There are many benefits noted in schools which operate under a Balanced School Day, such as larger blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, greater length of time for nutrition, less time lost through transition, greater task completion, and improved student focus. The school day is divided into three equal instructional segments totaling 300 minutes. The segments are separated by 40-minute nutrition and recreational breaks instead of two 15-minute recess breaks and a one-hour lunch break. We operate on the balanced day, which includes 2 forty minute nutrition breaks. The school schedule is as follows. Grandview School was first opened in 1912 and has endured in our community for more than 100 years! We are a Kindergarten to grade 8 school of approximately 175 students, including an Autism Spectrum Disorder Class and a large intermediate population due to the fact that we integrate the grade 7 & 8 students from Graham Bell School into our school. The school is built on 5 different levels so we are not wheel-chair accessible but if you need assistance to enter the school, please let us know in advance. We also have a before and after school program operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Brantford. Community volunteers distribute healthy snacks to all students every Tuesday and Thursday. There is a high expectation for student achievement and behaviour. We focus on character attributes each month and educate students on responsibility and strategies to stop bullying. We have a caring and committed staff who are very diverse....sharing their strengths in academics, athletics, technology and school spirit. We are the home of “The Grizzlies” and proudly represent our school in many board sponsored events. We have an active parents group called Parent Involvement Team (PIT) who meet each month and support our students in many ways. Please use the Drop Off/Pickup area to drop off your child in the morning and pick up your child in the evening. Your child can be dropped off near the yellow posts in the morning near the playground area. As well, at night, your child can wait there for you. Primary students that are walkers are being dismissed through the front door. Junior and intermediate students are being dismissed to the back playground area. Agnes G. Hodge is a JK-Gr. 8 urban school with a population of approximately 445 students and 50 staff. The school was opened in 1956 in honour of Agnes G. Hodge, who started the first Home and School Association in Brantford and was one of the first women to serve on the Brant County Board of Education. The original building consisted of 6 classrooms that housed 100 students. In 2005, an addition was built to accommodate the amalgamation of students from Riverview and Ryerson Public Schools. Our school mascot is the Husky and our school colours are blue and gold. We offer a variety of clubs, sports teams and activities for students, including Glee Club, ukulele Club, First Nations, Metis and Inuit club, softball, soccer, volleyball, football, and zumba, to name a few. We have a daily snack program run by a small group of dedicated volunteers. In addition, classes participate in Roots of Empathy, the SKIP program, KELSO, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids; The Leader in Me and Social Justice Begins with Me. The school was opened in September 1956 in honour of Agnes G.
