The Aurora Shopping Centre has been in existence in Aurora since 1961 and presently has 31 retail merchant stores to serve your shopping needs. In 1964, Abraham Merkur ventured out of Toronto to the small but growing community of Aurora and purchased the Aurora Shopping Centre (ASC). At the time, it consisted of just the western strip of retail stores with Loblaws as its anchour tenant. During the seventies, two major additions were constructed, one on the northern edge of the site and the other on the south east corner facing Yonge Street. Currently, the ASC is proud to host outlets of such national retailers as No Frills, Staples, The Beer Store, Bulk Barn, and The CIBC Bank, as well as a variety of individual retailers providing a wide range of products and services. Over the years, the Centre was managed by Araham Merkur’s two son’s Froim and David Merkur, then by David by himself, and finally for the past six years by David Merkur’s daughter Shauna Tepperman. The Aurora Shopping Centre continues to make a significant contribution to the Town of Aurora through contributions to Town’s Arts and Culture Fund, established years ago by David Merkur, and by working hard to meet the needs of its loyal customers and retailers. Generations of satisfied customers have been visiting the site since the Merkur family purchased it over forty years ago.
