In 1993, Frank Cirino, President and his wife Mary, started Lomar Machine Repair Inc. (1885 Moro Drive, Windsor). Nineteen years later, the business has grown from two full time employees to seven full time employees. The company originally started out providing a Machine Repair Service to the Tool & Mold industry in and around the Windsor area. Lomar has since expanded its business to include machine sales and other tool room equipment, as well as most recently adding FCS Workholding Solutions & Automation to their list of products and services. Lomar Machine embraced new technologies 10 years ago when they started working with a local electronic company taking older machinery and retrofitting the machines with new CNC controls. Lomar handled all the mechanical work and the electricians, of course, controlled the electronics. The need to retrofit older machines with new Heidenhain controls was required to bring these machines up to new standards. The older machines were only capable of cutting at 30 to 50 IPM (Inches Per Minute) and after the retrofits, the machines were cutting at 250 to 300 IPM. Clients grew to depend on their service and as the need for technology increased, Cirino decided to pursue the prospect of machine sales. He travelled to Italy eight years ago to research and meet with suppliers of 5 Axis machines. There are three Italian companies that Lomar presently works with. The first being Promac S.R.L., which supplies Lomar with 5 Axis CNC machines, which aid in machining with minimal job set-up time. When using 5 Axis machines, the clients benefit by getting more work done in one set-up and cutting done in less time. The second supplier from Italy is I.M.S.A. They supply 5 Axis Gun Drills, which are capable of drilling long holes in molds that require multiple angles in the same set-up. Lomar has also become the North American distributor for FCS Clamping System and Automation.
