Transport Canada's Pacific Region plays an extensive role in aviation safety and security in British Columbia. The department is responsible for the development and enforcement of aviation regulations, such as the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations. Our team of aviation inspectors regularly conduct inspections and audits to ensure the aviation industry is complying with these regulations and standards. The department also sets training and currency standards for licensed aviation professionals in Canada, such as flight instructors, pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers. Our civil aviation services (e.g., certifying and registering aircraft, training and licensing of personnel, etc.) can be accessed through our Transport Canada Centres (TCCs) throughout B.C., including Abbotsford, Kelowna, Prince George, Richmond, Vancouver, and Victoria. Under the National Airports Policy, Transport Canada is the landlord for three airports transferred to locally-based airport authorities in B.C. — Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna Airports. For smaller regional airports who qualify, Transport Canada administers the Airport Capital Assistance Program for safety improvement projects. The department operates Penticton Airport, Port Hardy Airport, and Sandspit Airport.
